Asphalt Builds It Stronger, Faster
The cover story in the March-April issue of Asphalt Pavement magazine focuses on the rebuilding of Alabama's busy Interstate 20 in Birmingham.
Crews worked 24/7 to rubblize a crumbling concrete pavement from the 1970s and overlay it with smooth new asphalt. While the job came with an aggressive schedule - just 65 days for the entire rubblize-and-overlay operation - Dunn Construction Co. Inc. finished ahead of schedule. Both reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) and recycled asphalt shingles (RAS) were used on the job.
